Composition for Pile 1, with Luke Munn
Something New, Chicago and Berlin, 2009
L.M.: "In this minimal sound piece, a series of audible clicks gradually becomes more frequent over an hour period at the former site of Chicago's Pile 1. The sound recalls a similar ticking of neutron counters from the nuclear reaction which took place in 1942, as well as the tones of tennis currently played there. The piece ran in-situ via a stereo on the court at the same time the original experiment ran, from 2:25 to 3:25 pm."
